The concentration provides a formal structure from The University's visual media studies program, incorporating: Graphic Design, Typography, and digital media program in the IA BAIA program (double major in Information Architecture, Graphic Design). In the IA BAIA and BFA programs, the concentration was interdisciplinary, including: the study of Graphic Design, Typography, fine arts, logo design, branding, color theory, collage design, exhibition design, product design, illustration, photography, drawing, contour drawing, charcoal drawing, Pantone markers, pen and ink, drawing and painting, sketching and drafting, conceptual development, structure, process (within the design of complex visuals such as maps, charts, diagrams, and navigational systems—requires a tight focus on verbal content, typographic details, aesthetic consistency, how the communication will be used, and who its audience will be), history, aesthetics, process, technology, project management, Information Architecture, usability testing, materials, and marketing. University Accreditation The BFA program was in Graphic Design. Emphasis: Geschichte der Schule für Gestaltung Basel— California College of the Arts (CCA). The CCA is proud to be designated by Adobe Systems Incorporated as a Partners by Design School. College of Creative Arts, Department of Design & Industry California College of the Arts, Department of Graphic Design A most rigorous, demanding, and challenging undergraduate-level program(s), encompassing both Information Architecture & Design. Excellent hands-on, vocational training—IA, UXD, PM skills. Because of an extended education and extra Diploma from Heald Business College, my IA BAIA degree is equivalent to the BSIT degree. My IA BAIA degree is a highly specialized undergraduate degree in Information Architecture, Navigational Systems, Project Management (see below information about degrees, coursework, and completion of Graphic Design internships). Graphic Design, Project Management Courses Excellent Graphic Design Programs The Information Architecture and Graphic Design concentration prepares architect-designers for changes within industry, better aligning architect-experience designers with contemporary processes, best practices, usability testing, project management, concepts, and nomenclature. Senior Thesis:HTML Editors—Their Practical Use in Web Design Graphic Design Portfolios CCA Additional Graphic Design classes from the BFA Graphic Design degree program at the California College of the Arts (CCA) were successfully completed (selected classes). This program provided specific training in Graphic Design, Typography, photography, art history, art direction, as well as private tutelage with Professors and family members that studied at: (1) At The Colleges, The University—SFSU, CCA. CCA Excellent Design Program: Because of my training at the CCA, The College, and The University, my emphasis was in Graphic Design. In keeping with this spirit, the program, other programs are both conceptual and skill based (including completion of several Graphic Design internships), emphasizing interdisciplinary thinking, theory, and rigor. Courses in typography and digital media complement the conceptual aspects of the program. Graphic Designers have access to a broad range of facilities and can take courses in photography, film, video, bookbinding, screenprinting, and letterpress printing, among other disciplines. “Universal clarity of communication is the crux of graphic design,” notes Michael Vanderbyl, a long-time Graphic Design Program faculty member at California College of the Arts (source: CCA, Graphic Design Department). Training at the CCA teaches designers to rely on their critical thinking skills—coupled with pen and ink skills for creating unique graphic design pieces. Designers learn the value of promoting original work, even though others may criticize it. Criticism is really a good thing. It makes one learn how to defend original ideas. top | résumé | how to use Website Copyright ©2007-2012 All rights reserved Last updated: August 1, 2010 Steven Heitman IA Design & Usability Information Architect User Experience Designer Project Manager |
