IA MAIA Thesis Report & Presentation, Online NS Tutorial [ » need more info—see IA MAIA Abstract, The NS Model ] IA MAIA Presentation, Online NS Tutorial 7 Commonly Used Navigational Systems for Websites Using The NS Model The NS Model serves as a guide to Information Architects. It shows the infinite possibilities for navigational systems, including the importance of defining navigational systems prior to designing Websites or other digital design products. Navigational systems are naturally integrated together in Information Architecture design concepts for Websites. Designing navigational systems that work coherently, congruently together, it makes accessing information easier for end users and saves time when online. IA MAIA Work Experience & Publications Information Architecture—Design of Navigational Systems for a Website (IA MAIA); publication and IA documentation in conjunction with supervised IA, PM supervised internships (additional publication beyond IA MAIA Thesis Report) that was required for completion of IA, PM supervised internships. To qualify for the IA MAIA graduate-level degree, several IA, GD, PM supervised internships were required prior to completion of programs. Supervised work experiences are performed and evaluated, requiring at least a 3.0 GPA for approval and graduation requirements. Letters of recommendations were also submitted to substantiate high-level performance as an Information Architect, Project Manager. IA Qualifications Because The University—San Francisco State University—offers a unique design program in Information Architecture (IA), Project Management (PM), Graphic Design (GD), highly respected in the professional community. I received an excellent education in Information Architecture and Graphic Design. In addition, excellent Graphic Design classes from the California College of the Arts greatly supplemented and enhanced my graphic design, typography education. I specialized in Information Architecture at The University in the (IA MAIA) master’s degree program. At the time, many Universities did not offer degrees in Information Architecture. The focus of the IA MAIA program is to both hone research skills and deepen professional design expertise in Information Architecture, Website Design and Management, Project Management, and Graphic Design. Original research on Information Architecture and Navigational Systems (The NS Model) were completed upon graduation, including several supervised IA Work Experiences. The California College of the Arts (BFA Graphic Design) and The Multimedia Studies Program (IA MAIA and IA ID&T)—The University—are proud to be designated by Adobe Systems Incorporated as a Partners by Design School. IA Work Experience To supplement the IA MAIA graduate-level degree, I received additional vocational training in Information Architecture and the Internet industry from The Multimedia Studies Program. I completed an IA Certification at The University (IA ID&T) with a specialization in Information Architecture, interaction design, and project management, including basic computer programming and information technology skills. I also worked with Senior Information Architects, Senior Interaction Designers, and Senior Project Managers at MSP on various IA, PM, IXD projects. Information Architecture (IA)— Heuristic Evaluations Information Architecture is a highly specialized field that requires specific training and education relevant to every IA project or employment situation. Without degrees in IA, it might be difficult to grasp why IA is both important and required for Websites or digital design products, including understanding user-centered design principles. Understanding why usability testing is necessary and how to do it. In terms of doing heuristic evaluations and how to design usability tests for effective data collection, this includes doing: heuristic evaluations, heuristic estimations, cognitive walkthroughs, pluralistic walkthroughs, feature inspections, consistency inspections, standards inspections, and formal usability inspections. Using The IA Model 1. Design Research, 2. Concept Generation, 3. User Scenarios, 4. Wire Frame Mockups, 5. Prototyping, 6. Usability Testing, 7. Implementation, and 8. System Testing. Steven Heitman’s Information Architect Required Review For Steven Heitman, Information Architect “Steven has made a serious, thorough study of Information Architecture, experience design, and usability. He applies his past experience in related fields intelligently and has worked hard to develop his expertise in his chosen field. As Steven’s mentor through the IA Institute, I have been impressed by his dedication and tireless efforts to improve and grow as a designer of user experiences.” Reviewed by Mr. Christian Crumlish Director of Technology The Information Architecture Institute July 2008 top | to portfolio | how to use Website Copyright ©2007-2012 All rights reserved Last updated: March 1, 2010 Steven Heitman IA Design & Usability Information Architect User Experience Designer Project Manager |
