![]() Information Architecture: Youth Law Center's Project San Francisco, California The Job— Doing Information Architecture
Information Architecture— Deliverables The Youth Law Center (YLC) is located in the heart of San Francisco's financial district. They desired to have a new Website built from scratch (for more information, see IA projects). IA is not responsible for maintaining client's Website. The Challenge— Their First Website The challenge was to structure the content and Information Architecture to allow for quick delivery to end users: children, judges, lawyers, and case workers. The project was complicated because the client had never had a previous Website. The entire project was done from the beginning to the final production of their Website. In addition, some conflicts were apparent in the group, which were harmoniously resolved. Also, the client had to be educated about the requirements for Information Architecture, including the limitations of the digital landscape. The client was unable to provide photographs due to legal reasons and did not have a logo to use. Of course, that created additional design limitations. Through my IA direction, I assisted the client to develop appropriate categories and content for their Website. The Result— High-Quality Information Architecture The result was that over a period of four months (full-time work) the team worked with the client to produce this Website. I did the research and completed the Information Architecture component. The final version of the Website was implemented, allowing quick online access to end users. As it turned out, the Website was quite extensive. Though the YLC has revamped their Website a few times, the original Information Architecture still remains in place. Information Architecture Work Experience I was the project manager and Information Architect, doing production work and HTML coder. I worked on a team with five people, including an HTML coder, graphic designer, assistant project manager, and production designers. I did a flow chart, user scenarios, reports, and wire frame mockups. I was also the Graduate Teacher's Assistant and did project management work. I was involved in extensive transactions with the client and doing all of the Information Architecture research. Our group participated in numerous meetings with the client in downtown San Francisco. Most of the work, however, was done by me and another team member (as stated in their letter of reference). ![]() top | back to portfolio ![]() top | back to portfolio Copyright ©2007-2012.
